Auckland International Airport - AKL

Auckland Airport is located in Mangere, 21 kilometres south of downtown Auckland. The airport has two terminals that 500 meters apart: the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal.

•  The terminals are connected by an open-air landside walkway (10-15 minute walk) and a free inter-terminal bus that runs every 15 minutes from 05:00-22:30.
• The International Terminal has two levels. The ground level is arrivals and check-in zones A-E; Level 1 is the departures, retail shops and restaurants, and access to departure gates.
• The Domestic Terminal has a two levels with check-in counters and security check on the ground floor, and departure gates 20-33 and the Koru Lounge on the first floor.
• Luggage carts are available free of charge.        

Skybus Express

The Skybus Express (formerly Airbus) operates between both terminals and central Auckland. The bus travels to the Downtown Ferry Terminal via Mount Eden Train Station on the Western Line. The bus travels down Queen Street to the Ferry Terminal, which is opposite the Britomart Transport Centre for bus and train connections. Tickets cost NZD 16 (USD 11) and travel time takes between 45 minutes to an hour.

380 Airporter

The 380 Airporter operates between Onehunga, both airport terminals, and Manukau City. Passengers can connect to Britomart Transport Centre at Onehunga, Papatoetoe, or Manukau stations. The fastest option is Papatoetoe. Tickets to Manukau is NZD 5 (USD 3.50) and journey time is 24-40 minutes; tickets to Onehunga are NZD 4 (USD 2.75) with a 30 minute journey time.

Taxi

Taxi and shuttle ranks are located outside the arrivals area in both terminals. Fares to the city are between NZD 75 and NZD 90 (USD 51-61).

Allow three hours for transfers from international to domestic flights. You must collect your luggage, clear customs and go to the domestic transfer desk on the ground level of the International Terminal. If you have less than 60 minutes before your departure, proceed directly to the Domestic Terminal.

For a transfer to another international flight, proceed to the International Transfer screening point located adjacent to arrival Gate 2. You will need to undergo security screening before you can proceed to the departures area and board the next flight. Once you clear security, head to the transfer desk on level 1.

Just as Australia, New Zealand has very strict biosecurity controls on what can and cannot be brought into the country, including food and plants. Even muddy shoes, snacks, or flowers can be subject to quarantine. If in doubt, it’s best to declare any items that could be disallowed or face large fines.

Free showers are available to transit travellers who would like to freshen up. The Collection Point (outside duty free shops) sells toiletries and hires towels and hairdryers. For non-transit travellers, showers are in the ground floor arrivals area after immigration. Towel packs and shower keys are available when the i-SITE tourist information desk is open. The shower key requires a refundable NZD 10 (USD 6.80) deposit.

Emperor Lounge – Showers Available

Hot food, reading material and complimentary Wi-Fi and work stations. Access NZD 55 (USD 38).

Air New Zealand Koru Club – Showers Available

Hot food, work stations, children’s play area available. Access NZD 55 (USD 38) for Domestic Terminal, NZD 85 (USD 58) for International Terminal.

There are two luggage storage offices available in the International Terminal. Rates are as follows:

Small items: NZD 8 (0 - 4 hours); NZD 10 (0 - 8 hours); NZD 12 (0 - 12 hours)

Large Items: NZD 10 (0-4 hours); NZD 12 (0 - 8 hours); NZD 15 (0 - 12 hours)

An extensive choice of rental car options is available for international and domestic travellers. Desks are in the arrivals area and you will receive the vehicle upon checking in there.
