Bologna / Borgo Panigale Airport - BLQ

Bologna Airport lies only 6km from Bologna and serves the Emilio-Romagna area of Italy. This small transport hub, with only one terminal, is easy to navigate and your trip here should be hassle-free. There are three levels:

• Ground floor: Arrivals and Departures halls, baggage reclaim, car rental
• First floor: Security checks, boarding gates, Marconi Business Lounge, lost luggage
• Second floor: Eating area (before security), includes a café, a pizzeria and a self-service restaurant

If you're flying with children under two-years-old, you get to skip the queue at the security checks and enjoy direct access to the boarding area using the Family Fast Track. The entrance is at the right end of the security queues. 

The easiest way to get to Bologna is by using the Aerobus service. There is no train from here.

Bus

The Aerobus - BLQ (TPER) airport shuttle takes travellers to the city and back again in a continuous loop, leaving every 11 minutes. For the city centre, get off at the third stop, Via dei Mille, centro città, and for the train station get off at the fourth stop, Stazione Centrale. Journey time is 15-20 minutes.

Taxis take around 15 minutes to the city centre. There may be extra fees for luggage.

At only 5km from Bologna, this airport is well placed for some sightseeing if you have a few hours between flights. One of Italy’s most instantly likeable cities, Bologna's attractive redbrick medieval architecture contrasts with the youthful population, in part attracted by the historic university. Great for people watching, the Piazza Maggiore is at the heart of the city, just 15 minutes by shuttle from the airport. Don’t leave without sampling authentic gelati at La Sorbetteria Castiglione, half an hour from the centre.

For a bit of extra comfort while you wait, try the Marconi Business Lounge - offering the usual free newspapers and magazines, WiFi and unlimited drinks and snacks (spirits, beer and wine), and an office area. It isn’t the cheapest but does offer a left luggage service and fast-track access to boarding.

Location: Terminal A, after security, level 1, follow the signs to security checks and turn right towards the glass lift
Opening hours: 05:00-21:30 daily

There are no hotels within the airport. The Sheraton Bologna Hotel & Conference Center (a Sheraton in name only – the hotel is no longer affiliated with the hotel group) is located just outside the airport grounds but a complimentary shuttle service runs between the airport and the hotel every 20 minutes during the day. It’s corporate in look and feel but offers doubles from €90.00 for two room only, a restaurant serving regional food and a gym and a late check out of 12 pm. Meeting spaces are also available.
