Getting around the airport

CPT

Cape Town International Airport is 20 kilometres from the city centre and one large terminal complex.

  • The Central Terminal Building is in the middle while the International and Domestic Terminals are on each side.
  • The Central Terminal offers consolidated check-in and security screening. International passengers head north for immigration checks and boarding while domestic passengers go south.
  • Both Domestic and International Terminals have Arrivals on the Ground Level and Departures on Level 2. A viewing deck and food courts are on Level 3.

Getting into Cape Town

Bus and taxi options

Taxi

Hail a cab from the airport-authorised Touch Down Taxis. Depending on the company, a journey should cost ZAR 300-400 (USD 18-25). The journey takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour depending on traffic conditions. Some taxis have flat rates while others charge by the kilometre. You should agree on the fare up front.

Bus

The MyCiti Airport Express Bus operates across the city. Buses run every 20 minutes and the journey takes 20-30 minutes outside of peak times to Civic Centre Station. Travellers must purchase a Myconnect card and load their fare onto these cards. Myconnect cards cost ZAR 30 (USD 2) and the trip to the airport is ZAR 79.20 (USD 5.70).

Four options

Bidvest Premier Lounges

Bidvest Premier lounges are available in the Domestic and International terminals. They offer free Wi-Fi and complimentary snacks, beverages, and local newspapers. The Domestic Lounge fee is ZAR 219 (USD 13; valid for 1.5 hours prior to flight departure) and the International Lounge fee is ZAR 365 (USD 22; valid for 3 hours prior to flight departure).

The Consolidated Rental Car Facility is in front of the Transport Plaza and Central Terminal building. It is accessible via underground pedestrian walkways on either side of the building and houses major car rental agencies.
