Christchurch International Airport is located 12 kilometres northwest of the city centre in a suburb of Christchurch.
The airport has an integrated passenger terminal divided into International Arrivals (right), International and Domestic check-in (centre), and Regional Departures and Arrivals (left). Outside and across from International Arrivals is the pick-up areas for off-airport car hire, city and coach buses, and pre-booked taxis. The centre and left are for taxi and shuttle pick-ups.
The airport has two levels: Level 1 houses security screening, baggage claim, and passport control in the International Arrivals area and baggage claim and ground transport in the Domestic Arrivals area. Level 2 has security screening and Customs in the centre and access to the gates.
There are two taxi ranks near the terminal for passengers leaving the airport:
outside the regional lounge, between the terminal and the multi-level car park building
outside the international arrivals hall
It takes around 15-20 minutes to get into the city. The standard fare is usually around USD 45-65. However, prices may vary by taxi company.
Shuttles
Shuttles provide a door-to-door service to all parts of Christchurch and some surrounding areas using multi-passenger vans. A shuttle can be cheaper than a taxi but you will have to share the van with other passengers and the shuttle will stop at other destinations before your own.
