Guangzhou, China (CN)

Getting around the airport

One main terminal

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport lies 28km north the city and is China's second busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic. 'Baiyun' refers to Mount Baiyun near the airport, and means 'white clouds'.

It has one terminal:

  • Basement (-1) floor: Underground train station and carpark.
  • First floor: Arrivals, split into zones A and B.
  • Third floor: Departures, divided into areas A and B with 118 gates. The A boarding area is on the east concourse and divided into East 1-East 3 while the B area is on the west side with three smaller concourses, West 1-West 3. All international flights leave from area A, East 1.

Take the Metro

While there are Airport Express buses going to many places and hotels in the city, the most convenient route from the airport is to take the Metro.

Train

The journey from to the city centre on the Metro takes around 45 minutes to the city centre (Tianhe District). Trains run every seven minutes from 06:10-23:00. The airport is on Metro Line 3, which has changes with Line 2 at Jiahewanggang to get to Guangzhou East Railway (change for Guangzhou high-speed railway), and Line 8 at Kecun.

Tip: If you're staying in Guangzhou, we recommend buying a Yangcheng Tong travel card. It costs RMB 80, of which RMB 30 is a refundable deposit.

Cost: RMB 7 one-way
Buying tickets: Vending machines in the station (coins only, or RMB 10 notes)
Location: Underground station on Level (-1). Take any escalator in Area B. If you arrive at Area A, take the escalator to Level -1 by Gate 4 inside the arrival hall of Area A. A moving walkway will take you to the station.
