Getting into Istanbul

By bus, car or taxi

Istanbul New Airport is located northwest of Istanbul, Turkey in the district of Arnavutköy. Turkey's national road D020 is a short distance away from the airport, making it easy to travel to and from the airport. The airport is located 33 km away from Istanbul Atatürk Airport and 65 km from Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen Airport.

By car

Istanbul city center, also known as Sultanahmet, is located approximately 35 kilometers away from Istanbul New Airpor and takes almost one hour by car.

By bus

Since October 2018, public buses (New Airport Transit Bus) run from and to the airport. Bus transportation is operated by HAVAİST and İETT. In total, 150 buses running every day between the airport and the European and Asian parts of Istanbul. Travel time is 30 to 90 minutes, depending on your destination. 

Cost: TL 12-30 adults, children under 5 years travel for free

By taxi

Travellers at the airport can alternatively take a taxi to get to Istanbul and its surroundings. Taxis operate 24/7 and are subdivided into three types of taxis, comprised of black “E” type, blue “D” type, and orange “C” type taxis. The price of a taxi ride from the airport to the centre of Istanbul is about TRY 125 and takes approximately one hour, depending on traffic.

Future metro transportation

Turkey’s Ministry of Transport has already announced its plan to begin the construction of a railway system which will connect passengers at Istanbul Airport to the city center. The airport will get three metro stations where passengers can board the metro. The new metro lines will pass through the airport and six Istanbul districts and are scheduled to be operational by 2020-2022.

Getting around the airport

One main terminal with seven concourses

Istanbul New Airport is located northwest of Istanbul, Turkey in the district of Arnavutköy. The airport officially opened on October 29th, 2018 on the Republic Day of Turkey, but only became fully operational on April 6th, 2019. With more than 300 domestic and international flight destinations, the airport will serve as one of the most important hubs in the world thanks to its strategic geographical location between Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. One of the airport's biggest operating airlines will include Turkish Airlines which will serve as the main hub as of January 2019. Following the opening of Istanbul New Airport, the city's current airport, Istanbul Atatürk Airport, ceased all scheduled passenger traffic and will be converted into a public park. The airport is estimated to handle an annual passenger capacity of 200 million passengers upon full completion in 2028, making it the busiest airport in the world. 


Airport layout

The airport currently has one terminal building, split into domestic and international flights as well as four runways and seven concourses lettered A, B, C, D, E, F and G. Concourses A, B, and D will be used for international flights and Concourse F and G are reserved for domestic flights.

Istanbul Airport City is an urban development project and trade center located near Istanbul New Airport that will consist of hotels, hospitals, offices, shopping malls and other entertainment areas including fairs and event zones. The airport city is set to be opened in accordance with the airport opening and will be accessible via the subway line and open 24 hours daily.
