Palma de Mallorca Airport - PMI

Palma, Spain (ES)

Getting around the airport

One main terminal building with four concourses

Palma de Mallorca Airport (also known as Son Sant Joan Airport) lies 8km east of the island's capital, Palma, and is the third biggest airport in Spain. It has one central terminal building, with Arrivals on the ground floor and Departures on the second floor. The terminal leads to gates in four concourses:

  • Concourse A: Handles domestic and non-Schengen flights, including the UK and Ireland. Has a children's play area. Closed in the winter months.
  • Concourse B: The smallest module with few facilities, handling Air Nostrum flights only. Closed in the winter months.
  • Concourse C: The main module, handling Schengen flights and airlines including Easyjet. Has a children's play area.
  • Concourse D: Used by Vueling airline and Ryanair. Contains the Formentor VIP lounge.

Note: The airport can be very busy, especially in summer months, so be prepared for heavy crowds and limited seating.

Don't hang around

Even though there's just one terminal, the airport is pretty large! Allow enough time to catch your flight: after passport control, it's at least a 10-15 minute walk to your gate, and 20 minutes to the furthest building, Concourse C.

Getting into Palma de Mallorca

Local bus is best

There is no train from Palma de Mallorca Airport, but the local EMT buses are cheap and comfortable offering a reliable service. Or, your hotel may offer a shuttle service.

Bus

There are two main bus routes away from Palma de Mallorca Airport:

  • Line 1 takes you north to the capital in around 15 minutes and stops at the main tourist attractions in the city, finishing at the port. Buses run roughly every 15 minutes from 06:00-02:00 (until 01:10 from 1 Nov-30 Apr).
  • Line 21 takes you south to S'Arenal in around 45 minutes, stopping at many hotels on Palma beach along the way. It runs roughly every 30 minutes from 07:00-00:00 (until 22:10 from 1 Nov-30 Apr).

Once you're at Placa d'Espanya station (also known as Estacio Intermodal), you can change to trains and buses to other destinations on the island. For Magaluf, take Lines 104, 106 or 107. For Santa Ponsa, take Lines 102, 103 or 104.

Take a short excursion

Visit Fornalutx

One of the most untouched villages on Mallorca is Fornalutx, up in the mountains. Reach it by foot through terraced orange and lemon groves, or by road. Here you'll find not a hint of hotel bustle. Ask at the Airport Info Desks by Check-in and at Arrivals for details. Fornalutx is 30 minutes away by taxi and great for a quick layover.
