Sabiha Gökçen International Airport - SAW

Istanbul, Turkey (TR)

Getting around the airport

Domestic and international in one building

Sabiha Gökçen International Airport is Istanbul's second airport, and is located 35km south-east of central Istanbul on the Asian side of the city. It's a hub for Pegasus Airlines, as well as a base for Turkish Airlines and Borajet, and is smaller than Ataturk Airport, though fliers report that it's not always well organised, it's grown busier in recent years, and queues can be long.

The airport has one main terminal building, with different entrances for domestic and international:

  • The domestic area has one level
  • The international area has two levels: Arrivals on the ground floor, with baggage claim, passport control and car hire; Departures on the upper floor, with check-in counters, security and access to gates.

There's also a VIP Terminal with business lounges.

Transiting?

Leave plenty of time

There have been reports of difficulties transiting between domestic and international flights.

Be aware that you have to check your luggage out, go out of the building, and in through the other entrance, then check in again, to transit between domestic and international flights. This can take time, so don't hang around between flights.
