Santos Dumont Airport is the second major airport serving Rio de Janeiro and is located two kilometres from downtown.
The passenger terminal is under one roof, divided into Arrivals and Departures terminals. The ground level has taxi stands and elevators and escalators that go up to the Arrivals and Departures areas on each side of Level 1.
Taxis are located directly outside the terminal. A Taxi ride from the airport to central areas of the city will cost is approximately BRL 30-45 and take around 20-40 minutes depending on the neighborhood and time of the day.
Uber
There is an Uber lounge at the airport to relax until your cab arrives. The lounge has water, Wi-Fi and charging stations. It is easy to request Uber at Santos Dumont Airport. You just need to open the app and choose your pickup location. There are three special pickup venues: at the entrance of the Bossa Nova Mall, the Uber Lounge or the hotel entrance.
Bus and Subway
Another alternative is to take a bus that runs along all central neighborhoods. However, it takes around 30 minutes of waiting at the bus stop.
Rio de Janiero Downtown is served by the subway, and has several stations. The closest station is around 20 minute walk from the airport (not recommended at night)
