Getting into Stuttgart

S-Bahn is cheapest

Local train (S-Bahn) is the cheapest and most convenient option to take the 14km journey.

Train

Take the S2 or S3 public transport rail lines (S-Bahn) directly to the city centre. Trains leave every 10-15 minutes between 05:08 and 00:38. The journey takes 27 minutes. Buy a ticket for three zones to travel to the city. On the way back, you need a ticket for 2 zones from Stuttgart Central Railway Station to the airport.

Tip: Buy your ticket in the baggage area while you’re waiting for your luggage.

Cost: EUR 4.20
Buying tickets: Ticket machines in baggage claim, concourse 1, just next to the exit (cash or card), or on the platforms
Location: Terminal 1, level 1 (underground), platforms 1 and 2

Taxi

A taxi ride into the city takes around 20 minutes (longer in rush hour). The taxis are cream-coloured Mercedes Benzes and clearly marked with TAXI signs on the roof and metres inside.

Cost: From EUR 25
Location: Ranks outside each terminal

Getting around the airport

Four Terminals

Stuttgart Airport lies 14km south of the city. It is a busy, at times overstretched, airport with four terminals. Each of these has separate check-in areas and entrances, but they are all directly connected and lead to the same departure area after security:

  • Terminals 1 and 3 are the main halls. Reach them directly from the S-Bahn train station on level 1
  • Terminal 1 West additional check-in facilities for busy seasons
  • Terminal 2 is a small area mainly used by Austrian Airlines and Swiss
  • Terminal 4 is for charter flights

The airport offers plenty of shopping and eating facilities and good connections into Stuttgart.
