Sydney, Australia (AU)
Sydney Airport (also known as Kingsford Smith Airport) lies 8km south of the city centre, beside Botany bay. It's the oldest commercial international airport in the world and is the primary hub for Qantas Airways.
It has three terminals. Terminal 1 is separate from Terminals 2 and 3, which are right beside each other.
Paid-for shuttles between terminals
You can walk easily between terminals 2 and 3, but to go to and from Terminal 1, you'll need to take a shuttle. Unusually, you'll have to pay for this service - unless you’re flying with Qantas or Virgin. You have two options:
Sydney is not far from the airport, and the journey is quick and comfortable by train.
The Airport Link City Circle Line takes you to the centre of the city in just 13 minutes. Trains run approximately every 10 minutes from Mon-Fri, 04:23-23:23 and Sat-Sun, 04:54-23:54.
Tip: To avoid paying the AUD 13 airport station surcharge (Gatepass), take the 20- to 30-minute walk to Wolli Creek station (from Terminal 1) or Mascot station (from Terminals 2-3) to start your journey.
Cost: AUD 17.80 from International Terminal 1, AUD 17 from domestic Terminals 2-3
Buying tickets: Buy an Opal public transport top-up card in the station, or from Newslink, Relay or WHSmith shops in the airport - this covers buses, trains and ferries during your time in Sydney
Location: International Airport Station in Terminal 1, Arrivals level and Domestic Airport Station in Terminals 2-3, both on underground levels
A taxi from Sydney Airport to the city centre will take around 20 minutes.
Cost: AUD 45-55 to the city centre (plus AUD 4.10 toll when leaving the airport)
Location: Ranks outside Terminals 1 and 2
Chargebar has installed 26 custom charging kiosks at all major entry points throughout the airport. The kiosks have a number of different cables that allow you to charge your phone for free.
If you are an overseas resident and have spent 300 AUD or more in a single store you are entitled to a refund on the GST. Save time in line by using the TRS mobile and web app. You will need your travel information, details of the goods you’re claiming the refund for, and how you prefer to receive the refund. The app will provide you with a QR code that must be presented with the original tax invoices and the goods (do not check them in).
The TRS Office is located on the Departures Level just after Customs within the main Heinemann Tax & Duty-Free store.
Our app wouldn't have won the Crystal Cabin Award for "Best Customer Journey" if it wasn't for all of our users' valuable feedback and constant support.
No matter whether you are travelling for business, leisure or you work at an airport, we could always use airport intel to help make our app even better and improve things for travellers all over the world!
