1 main terminal, 2 satellite terminals, 4 concourses
Washington Dulles Airport is located 42 km west of downtown Washington. It consists of one main terminal as well as two satellite terminals.
The iconic main terminal houses ticketing, check-in facilities, baggage claim, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, an international arrivals building for passenger processing, information facilities, as well as H Gates and the four Z Gates (Air Canada Express and Frontier Airlines). The main security checkpoints are located at the mezzanine level, another one can be found on the baggage claim level. The main terminal is connected to an hourly parking lot and daily garage 1 by an enclosed walkway with moving sidewalks. The curb level is for shuttle buses and MetroBus 5A; ground transport level offers rental cars, taxis, hotel information, and parking. The subway station is near the entrance to the passenger walkway and B gates.
Most flights are being operated out of the two linear satellite terminals.
the first satellite building houses A gates and B gates, handling all United Express flights as well as all non-United flights. It can be reached by a walkway from the main terminal, by AeroTrain connecting either to the main terminal or to the C Gates in the second terminal building or by a shuttle service connecting A and C Gates as well as A and Z Gates
the other terminal contains C and D gates, operating all United Airlines flights. This terminal can be reached by AeroTrain arriving at the C Gates or by shuttle service from either the Z Gates in the main terminal or from the A Gates in the first satellite terminal building

In cooperation with NASA, the airport has very recently launched a new play area for the kids. The highlight of this new facility is the "Tommy Tower", which has the airport's historic air traffic control tower as its model. To protect and educate the children at the same time, the area is covered with walls decorated with child-friendly information on aviation and airplanes. The Kids' FunWay admits children younger than 12 years and no taller than 42 inches (106 cm).
